And this is just the beginning

[update, 23/3/2011: I mentioned this post, the first in my references to the middle east winds of change, in an email conversation with a non-Hebrew speaking friend. And thus the request for a translation to English arose. And here it is... ]

Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, the president of Tunisia, Has fled his country. The ongoing protests brought this. According to reports he will be replaced, for the time being, by his prime minister, Mohamed Ghannouchi, as the constitution of Tunisia orders.
It appears that this move, at least at this stage, is greeted by the world, as far as the United States represents the world.
Is this the beginning of the spring of nations of the Arab world ? Is it just an intermediary step in Tunisia's road to becoming an Islamic republic ? What will happen to human rights in Tunisia and other states in the Arab world ?
It is extremely hard to evaluate at this stage, considering the economic reality that is standing behind the crisis, and considering the question of how characteristic is Tunisia's regime, in comparison to other Arab countries.
Writing this, I believe that this is only the first domino piece in a process that is about to unfold before our witnessing eyes, in other countries in the Arab world. I wish that this shall be the beginning of a  spring of nations, and that thanks to its outcomes, at least the Long Term outcomes, the year 2011 shall be remembered in the same breath as 1848.
